![]() It won’t take long for the Boise State Broncos season to be determined as they play the second most important game in their history when they host the Oregon Ducks on Thursday, September 3rd in a nationally televised game on ESPN. If the Broncos win that game they could have a chance at an unbeaten season in BCS odds although road tests at Fresno State, Tulsa and Hawaii could be difficult. The Broncos are not given much of a chance in the national title picture as they are listed at 100-1 in BCS odds College football odds makers really don’t believe the Broncos have a shot at an unbeaten season as their over/under win total at sportsbooks has been set at 10.5. The key to Boise State having a big season in BCS odds at sportsbooks will be quarterback Kellen Moore. He was the WAC Freshman of the Year last season throwing for 25 touchdowns and he set a school record by completing 69.4 percent of his passes. Boise returns some talented players that should help Moore including wide receivers Austin Pettis and Titus Young. The running game should be solid with Jeremy Avery and D.J. Harper. The news is even better at tight end where Tommy Gallarda and Kyle Efaw return. Not to be forgotten is fullback Richie Brockel, who NFL scouts are already looking at. The offensive line does have some issues. They return three starters but that might not be great news. Sophomore center Thomas Byrd is a good one but the rest of the line has question marks. Nate Potter and Kevin Sapien are back but they are nothing special. The Boise State defense was great last season, allowing just 12.6 points per game and impacting college football odds. Senior cornerback Kyle Wilson is probably the best player on the defense and he combines with cornerback Brandyn Thompson and safeties Jeron Johnson and George Iloka to give the Broncos a very good secondary. Upfront the Broncos are led by Ryan Winterswyk and Byron Hout. Billy Winn also returns. The problem for Boise on defense is they have no impact player at linebacker. Junior Kyle Brotzman is back to handle the kicking and punting. He was very good with his punting but struggled with field goals last season. Chris Peterson has done a great job at Boise State and they could be favored in every game this season in college football odds. All of Boise’s tough games in BCS odds are early as they host Oregon and travel to Fresno and Bowling Green in September while they play at Tulsa and Hawaii in October. |
