The LSU Tigers are coming off their worst season in sports odds this decade but things are looking up for the Tigers as they head into the 2009 college football betting season.

Head coach Les Miles made a number of coaching changes in the off-season including bringing in former Tennessee defensive coordinator John Chavis. LSU is listed at 19-1 in college football betting odds to win the 2009 BCS national championship.

The LSU offense is expected to be led by sophomore quarterback Jordan Jefferson who got the job late last season. He could be pressed though by Jarrett Lee and freshman Russell Shepard.

Eventually the job is going to go to Shepard since he is considered one of the best recruits in the nation. The running game is very good with Charles Scott who had 1,174 yards and 18 touchdowns last year. Keiland Williams and Richard Murphy also return.

The Tigers have All-SEC receiver Brandon LaFell who led the SEC Conference with 63 catches returning to impact college football odds. The other spot is up for grabs between Junior Terrance Toliver, senior Chris Mitchell and redshirt freshman Tim Molton.

LSU is solid at tight end with Richard Dickson.

2010 college football betting BCS odds at BetUS sportsbook currently have the LSU Tigers +1800.

The Tigers return three starters to the offensive line in Ciron Black at left tackle, Lyle Hitt at right guard and Joseph Barksdale at right tackle. The Tigers will need to find a new center and left guard.

The defensive line lost three starters but Rahim Alem is back. Charles Alexander may also get playing time. Al Woods, Drake Nevis, freshman Chris Davenport and junior college transfer Akiem Hicks are also in the running for starting positions.

The linebackers were poor a year ago. Returning are Kelvin Sheppard and Perry Riley. Jacob Cutrera could get a spot as well. Harry Coleman was a safety last year but is moving to linebacker this year and that is good news considering he led the Tigers with 71 tackles a year ago.

The secondary has Chad Jones at free safety and either Karnell Hatcher or Ron Brooks at strong safety. Patrick Peterson looks to be one corner while the other corner spot is a mess with Chris Hawkins, Jai Eugene, Brandon Taylor and Ron Brooks competing for time.

The secondary is a major problem for the Tigers heading into the 2009 season.

College football betting odds to win the SEC at BetUS sportsbook have the LSU Tigers +450.

The Tigers must find a new kicker and a new punter. Colt David set a record with 361 points and will be impossible to replace. JC transfer Derek Helton may be the new punter.

The schedule doesn’t do the Tigers any favors in 2009 college football odds. They have to travel to Alabama, Georgia and Mississippi and they are going to be underdogs in college football odds when they host the Florida Gators.

LSU should be improved in 2009 but with their schedule it may not show.
