Mississippi 2010 BCS Odds - Rebels 30-1 College Football Betting

There has not been so much excitement surrounding the Mississippi Rebels football program in sports odds for a long time. The Rebels are actually in the discussion for winning the SEC Conference this season and college football betting odds makers have given them respect as Mississippi is 5-1 to win the conference. The problem for the Rebels is that Florida is the overwhelming favorite in college football odds. Mississippi has the second best quarterback in the SEC in Jevan Snead. And it was Snead and the Rebels that actually beat Tebow and the Gators last season.

Snead threw for 26 touchdowns last year and even more is expected from him in 2009. Snead has a lot of weapons on offensive surrounding him. Running back Dexter McCluster was the Offensive MVP in the Cotton Bowl last season and he should be even better this year. Cordera Eason and Brandon Bolden also return. Bolden could end up being the starter this season with McCluster playing a variety of positions including flanker. The receivers at Ole Miss are very talented led by split end Shay Hodge who tied for the SEC with eight touchdowns last year.

Freshman Patrick Patterson already looks like a future star and McCluster had 44 catches last season. Markeith Summers, Lionel Breaux and tight end Gerald Harris are also threats. The offensive line loses Michael Oher but Head coach Houston Nutt was able to get prep school tackle Bobbie Massie who was the #1 rated prep school player in the country. He might start this season at left tackle. The offensive line is a concern since the Rebels also lost Darryl Harris and Maurice Miller. They do return center Daverin Geralds and right tackle John Jerry. The defense loses All-American tackle Peria Jerry and he won’t be easy to replace. Juniors Ted Laurent and Lawon Scott are projected starters this season while Jerrell Powe should get playing time. Greg Hardy has one of the spots at the end with Marcus Tillman and Kentrell Lockett in the mix.

The top two linebackers from last year are gone but senior Patrick Trahan returns. Allen Walker and Jonathan Cornell are also back. The secondary wasn’t very good last year and doesn’t look any better in 2009. Kendrick Lewis is the one star in the defensive secondary. Johnny Brown, Cassius Vaughn and Marshay Green will compete for the other spots. The Rebels have a great kicker in Joshua Shene but they could use better production out of punter Justin Sparks. Mississippi is a longshot in college football betting BCS odds to win the national title this season at 30-1 but even being in the discussion is a huge step up for the Rebels.
