![]() The Indianapolis Colts may look the same in 2009 NFL betting odds but they are not going to be the same. Long time head coach Tony Dungy is gone and Jim Caldwell has taken over. The impact of losing Dungy should not be underestimated. NFL odds makers seem to agree as the Colts are 12-1 in 2010 Super Bowl odds. The Colts over/under season NFL betting win total is listed at 10 OVER -120. Considering they have won 12 or more games in sports odds the last six seasons, that is quite a drop. In addition to losing Dungy, the Colts also had the public relations mess regarding their coordinators. They are bringing offensive coordinator Tom Moore back in some capacity but all is not well on the Indianapolis sideline. It is also important to note that Caldwell was a disaster as a head coach at Wake Forest so when things start to go bad at Indianapolis it could get ugly. The Colts do have Peyton Manning so things are not that bleak. Manning and the Colts won their last nine regular season games last year and Manning won the MVP award. Manning is not as healthy as he once was though and if he gets hurt the Colts are done. The Colts running game, which was horrible last season, should be improved with the addition of Connecticut running back Donald Brown. He should press Joseph Addai for playing time. The receivers are led by Reggie Wayne who is one of the best in the league and third year player Anthony Gonzalez. Dallas Clark is an excellent tight end and he may get even more work this year. The problem for the Colts is that they have no depth. The offensive line has center Jeff Saturday and right tackle Ryan Diem but not much else. If Manning doesn’t have time to throw then the Colts are going to struggle in NFL betting odds. The Indianapolis defense has really never been that great and the 2009 version doesn’t look very good either. The defensive line has two good pass rushers in Dwight Freeney and Robert Mathis but there is not much size in the middle. The linebackers are weak and the secondary has question marks. Bob Sanders is great when he is in the lineup but far too often he is hurt. The secondary doesn’t get exposed that often because of Freeney and Mathis but that could change if either of them gets hurt. The Colts have Adam Vinatieri who is one of the best kickers in NFL betting but they will need a new punter as for some reason they didn’t re-sign Hunter Smith. The Colts are still the favorites to win the AFC South and in Super Bowl odds but the overall signs are not encouraging. Very little was done in the off-season to address weaknesses, depth is a huge concern for the Colts and Caldwell has to prove he can coach. |
