![]() The 2009 Oklahoma Sooners are loaded once again and a serious national championship contender in sports odds. Led by Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Sam Bradford the Sooners are out to finally win a BCS bowl game. After five straight losses in 2010 BCS odds it is tough to back the Sooners, but they are one of the favorites in college football odds at 6-1 to win the national title. Oklahoma continues to be a football powerhouse even though they can’t win the big game. They will be led in 2009 by quarterback Sam Bradford who is simply one of the best quarterbacks in the country. Bradford has some real talent on offense to help him, especially in the backfield with DeMarco Murray and Chris Brown. The offensive line loses four starters but they just reload at Oklahoma anyway. Last year Oklahoma averaged over 51 points per game and this year’s group could be almost as good. The key will be finding receivers that can catch the ball. Tight end Jermaine Gresham is back and he will be a great target for Bradford but the Sooners will have to replace Juaquin Iglesais and Manuel Johnson. The candidates include Brandon Caleb, Adron Tennell, Dejuan Miller and Jameel Owens. Ryan Broyles is back as the slot receiver and he could move to the outside if necessary. The defense for Oklahoma will be even better than last year. They have a dominant front seven. In fact, there may not be a more dominant defense up front than Oklahoma’s. They have Gerald McCoy, Adrian Taylor and DeMarcus Granger on the line with Ryan Reynolds, Travis Lewis and Keenan Clayton at linebacker. It is going to be next to impossible to run on Oklahoma in 2009. On paper Oklahoma has a tough college football schedule with BYU, Miami and Tulsa in addition to the big game against the Texas Longhorns but only they can match-up with the Sooners. The schedule doesn’t do them any favors but the Sooners are so talented that it is possible they can go unbeaten if they can win against the Longhorns. Oklahoma has won the Big 12 title three straight years and six times since 2000. The Sooners have gotten so good though that anything less than a national title this year is going to be seen as a disappointment. |
