![]() The 2009 Florida Gators will try and do something that has not been done in sports odds since 1994-1995, repeat as national champions. The Nebraska Cornhuskers were the last team to win back-to-back national titles. While many teams have tried since that time, all have failed. This year’s Florida team has the talent to repeat and BCS odds makers like their chances as they are the 2-1 favorites in college football betting. The Gators are led by superstar quarterback Tim Tebow who does just about everything. Whether it is running or throwing the ball, Tebow is unstoppable and that\s why he is the favorite in Heisman trophy odds. The Gators have talent all across the board and Urban Meyer knows how to win. Anything less than a perfect season and a national championship would be considered a disappointment at Florida in 2009. Florida’s offense is all about Tebow. He has completed 66% of his passes for 6,390 yards and 67 touchdowns in his career with only 11 interceptions, and he has rushed for 2,037 yards and 43 touchdowns. The Gators will miss Percy Harvin but they still have enough talent to score almost at will. Backup quarterback John Brantley even looks good. With Harvin in the NFL, the main receiver for Tebow will now be tight end Aaron Hernandez who was third on the team last year in catches and should have a great season in 2009. The defense is simply dominating at Florida. All 11 starters return to a team that has two future NFL starters at defensive end in Jermaine Cunningham and Carlos Dunlap. The linebackers are as good as any in the country with Brandon Spikes leading the way. Spikes has made 239 career tackles with 11 broken up passes, three interceptions, and 25 tackles for loss as college football betting numbers show. The secondary is deep and talented led by Joe Haden. The backups at Florida are pushing the starters. That is how good this Florida defense is. Opposing offenses are going to find it very tough to score on Florida this season while college football odds makers will have a tough time making lines on the totals. Florida also has great special teams. Jonathan Phillips only missed one field goal attempt last year while Chas Henry is an excellent punter and return man Brandon James is a game breaker. Florida has one big game that could be a land mine and that is at LSU on October 10th. The rest of the college football schedule really looks manageable although the game against Georgia won’t be easy. The Gators are simply too good to lose any other game unless they have a total meltdown. Florida is the favorite to win it all in college football betting odds and for good reason. They have Tim Tebow and a defense that might be the best in the country. |
