It is important to know how to read the Texas Holdem board to avoid many common mistakes playing online poker. If there is a lot of betting activity after the flop it’s a solid indicator that somebody either has the nuts or has a draw to the nut hand. If the player with the nut hand or nut draw keeps raising you, then you end up with a very expensive defeat on a hand that was not the best one possible. If the pot is jammed, particularly in a Limit Holdem poker game, chances are that no one is seriously bluffing and somebody has the nuts or a nut draw. In Texas holdem poker, you need to avoid tunnel vision after the flop and remember that your hand may not be the best one. When players continue to bet it may give you a clue that they either have, or are drawing to a better hand. Some online poker players are fine before the flop but after the flop they have all kinds of trouble. After the flop is what separates the men from the boys in Texas Holdem poker. Let’s look at an example of how to play online poker after the flop. If you are holding a flush draw after the turn in Texas Holdem, (one card short of a flush with the river draw yet to come), and the board is paired you should know that a competitor could have a full house or be drawing to one. As you sit there with your flush draw, you must avoid the emotion of excitement and replace it with the realization that even if the flush comes your way, your flush could be beat by a full house hand that your competitor could possibly have. If you are continuing to chase and bet after the flush draw playing online poker, you are doing what is known as “drawing dead”. That means that you are throwing money away on a losing hand you think is unbeatable. It is all about reading the board and knowing what the best possible hand could be at all times. That is just one example of how reading the board after the flop is critical to how you play a hand in Texas Holdem.
