Mr. Hot Stuff a Longshot In Belmont Odds

Another betting longshot in 2009 Belmont Stakes odds is Mr. Hot Stuff who will enter the post with stakes odds around 18/1. Early lines had Mr. Hot Stuff at 15-1 but the three-year-old thoroughbred has dropped back as to be one of the betting longshots. Mr. Hot Stuff, a sire of double Breeder’s Cup Classic winner Tinzow, is also the full brother of Colonel John who won the 2008 Santa Anita Derby. Owned by Win Star Farm and trained by Eoin Harty, Mr. Hot Stuff will have Hall of Fame jockey Edgar Prado aboard for 2009.

Prado has won in Belmont odds with Sarava in 2002 and Birdstone in 2004. Mr. Hot Stuff not met expectation in his racing career with only 1 victory in his 8 starts including finishing with a show at the Santa Anita Derby and another show at the Sham Stakes on February 28. In the Kentucky Derby he was squeezed and bumped throughout the race which seemed to drain his energy finally finishing 15th. "I don't know if he got anything out of the Derby," Harty said. "I'm hoping it's a throw-out race, one that we can just ignore and move on. He's been training beautifully. Now he has to prove he belongs." The major question for fans looking at Mr. Hot Stuff as a possible betting longshot in 2009 Belmont Stakes odds is if he can handle the dirt as he does on the synthetic surface he usually races on in the California racing circuit.
