![]() NFL betting odds are the most popular of all forms of sportsbook odds and the most popular way to wager on the NFL is on sides, which are also known as the point spread and the line. NFL betting odds on sides is basically when a bettor either takes the favorite minus the points or the underdog plus the points. For example, if the Minnesota Vikings are a 3-point NFL odds favorite over the Green Bay Packers a gambler can choose between Minnesota at -3 or Green Bay at +3. For the Viking NFL bet to win, Minnesota would have to win the game by more than a 3-point margin. For Packer bettors to win, Green Bay would have to either with the game in a straight up upset or lose the game by less than 3-points. If Minnesota won the game by exactly 3-points then the game would be considered a “push” and all gamblers would get their stake money back. In addition to laying or taking points on the NFL odds, a gambler must lay out ten-percent more stake money than he is attempting to win. For example, if a gambler wants to win $500 he would have to wager $550. That extra ten-percent is known as “juice” or “vig” which is the sportsbook fee for taking the action. When a gambler wins his bets, he gets back all of the stake money, “vig” included, while the losers forfeit all of their stake money. If the sportsbook gets roughly equal action on both sides that “juice” is what makes them a guaranteed winner. Any amount from $1 up to $10,000 or more can be wagered on the 11/10 basis. When you look at NFL betting odds, you should understand that it is not based on the actual merits of the two teams involved but, rather, on the gambling public's perception of those two teams. Perception is everything in life and in NFL betting. One of the common NFL betting myths is that the favorite is always the better team. That actually is not the case, however. The favorite is often artificial and based on the so called home field advantage and the public's tendency to bet on home chalks in NFL betting odds. This means that oftentimes the better team is getting points as the dog. NFL betting odds are exciting to look at and even better to wager against. Take a shot versus the NFL betting pointspread this season and enjoy the great action. |
