Online Poker - Changing Games from Texas Holdem to Omaha Poker

Holdem is where you can use any five-card combination from your hand and the board, but in Omaha you have to use two cards from your hand and three from the board.

Texas Holdem is the game of choice for many online poker players around the world but it not the only game. Omaha poker has picked up a following as well and although it looks like Texas Holdem poker, it is not.

Holdem is where you can use any five-card combination from your hand and the board, but in Omaha you have to use two cards from your hand and three from the board to make your poker hand.

Omaha is really more of a poker game that features straights, flushes and full houses than Holdem.

Another thing you really want to keep in mind that is much different in Omaha than it is in Holdem is that a player will end up with “The Nuts” a lot, especially playing online poker.

In Holdem poker it is pretty rare that a player will end up with the best possible hand. In Omaha it happens on a regular basis. You want to keep in mind when moving from Texas Holdem poker to Omaha that you are not going to be able to play the same way.

There are not very many good Texas Holdem players that are also good Omaha players. Omaha is much more a game that requires patience and discipline. You must be aware of the odds when playing Omaha.

Opening hands don't have to be great in Omaha, but they need to have good drawing odds. That is the major difference between Omaha and Holdem.

At online poker sites, Texas Holdem is a poker game where you receive two down cards while in Omaha you receive four. What you want to keep in mind in Omaha is that a great hand like Aces or Kings doesn’t win that often.

In Holdem those are great hands, but in Omaha they are not. If you have a good hand, but not the nuts, you could be in serious trouble in Omaha. Drawing hands are everything in Omaha while in Holdem poker they are not.

Another difference between Omaha and Texas Holdem online poker is that Omaha is far more a game of cards than Holdem. In Texas Holdem you can win with top pair, three of a kind, or even high card. Those are rare occasions in Omaha.

Drawing hands come through all the time in Omaha, while in Holdem they are much less frequent. As you look at both games be sure and understand the differences as you head to the tables.
