Musket Man won the Illinois Derby by two lengths and really didn’t have the best trip in the Kentucky Derby so he could improve in Preakness betting odds. The Preakness is the shortest of the Triple Crown races and that should work in Musket Man’s favor. His sire is Yonaguska who was known as a sprinter. Musket Man is not a horse to ignore in Preakness odds. He has finished in the money in all seven of this career starts with five first place finishes and two third place finishes. Musket Man worked out at Monmouth Park in preparation for Saturday’s Preakness Stakes. Musket Man worked four furlongs in :46.60 handily on a track rated as fast. It was the fastest of 23 timed works at the distance on Tuesday. He will be the last horse to arrive at Pimlico as he is scheduled to arrive by van early Saturday morning. "First one to the derby; last one to the Preakness," trainer Derek Ryan said, "I'll be following the van in my car." Preakness Stakes betting longhots are really any horse with double-digit odds and Musket Man, despite finishing third in the Derby along with Big Drama. The Preakness Stakes betting favorite in the race is Rachel Alexandra at 8-5 followed by Pioneerof the Nile at 5-1, Mine that Bird at 6-1, Friesan Fire at 8 to 1 and Papa Clem at 10-1. The rest of the field is listed at double-digit Preakness odds and are considered betting longshots. |

2009 Preakness odds on Saturday have Musket Man as the 10-1 sixth betting choice. Musket Man finished third in the Kentucky Derby and could be in the mix in Preakness Stakes betting. Musket Man’s majority owner Eric Fein believes his horse has a chance to surprise in Preakness Stakes betting on Saturday. Although considered one of the Preakness Stakes betting longshots, Musket Man is not without a chance. Musket Man has an excellent post at #3 and if things go as Fein hopes, his horse has a big chance. "Love the post. Love the whole setup," Fein said.
