Although the colt has the pedigree, he has only won one race in 11 career starts including a 5th place finish in the Arkansas Derby and a second place finish at the Lane’s End Stakes. "We didn't get what we expected in the Derby," trainer D Wayne Lukas told officials at Pimlico Race Course. "We are hopeful the real Flying Private will show up in the Preakness". After finishing 19th in the Derby, Flying Private is a 2009 Preakness Stakes betting longshot at 50-1 but many horse betting handicappers are expecting the colt to show up at Pimlico. “Although Preakness odds have Flying Private as a betting longshot, his pedigree, jockey, trainer and post position should help the colt explode to the front” stated Vegassports-odds.com Preakness betting analyst Bishop Whitmore. Flying Private will have jockey Alan Garcia on board as he hits the gates as a longshot but being in that position is nothing new for Garcia. The 2008 Belmont Stakes was supposed to go to Big Brown but instead, Garcia aboard Da’Tara took the victory at 38-1 odds. Next to Flying Private in the #9 post position will be a favorite Pioneerof the Nile at 17-4 odds and another longshot Take the Points at 25/1. |
