2009 Preakness Stakes betting odds on Big Drama have the horse listed at 10-1 on Saturday. Not many people know much about Big Drama in Preakness Stakes odds but he should not just be thrown into the betting longshots category because he is a talented horse. Big Drama’s trainer David Fawkes has said his horse is “ready to run a huge race” for 2009 fans. Big Drama could have been pointed to the Kentucky Derby but his trainer wanted to give him added rest. “Early on we decided that we weren’t going to go with the Derby because it’s always a full field, and that can mean a rough trip that might knock a horse out for the season,” Fawkes said. “Mr. Queen and I talked and we thought the best thing we could do would be to find a race where this horse had a real shot. There are a lot of races in front of us and he wants to race the horse as an older horse. As far as the Preakness goes, it’s exciting to get a shot and have the opportunity to come in with a fresh horse.” This will be the first Triple Crown race for Fawkes and he really believes his horse has a great chance to win. “I think he fits this race super,” Fawkes said. “That was part of our thought process coming here. Did he fit the race? Did he fit the track? He’s doing super. My confidence level is very high.” Big Drama will be starting from the rail and is expected to go straight to the lead among the horses. Big Drama -115 is paired in head to head betting odds with Kentucky Derby winner Mine That Bird -115. The filly Rachel Alexandra is 8-5 in Preakness odds and the Preakness Stakes favorites’ choice starts from post position #13 and is expected to join Big Drama on the lead. A speed duel would not serve either of these two horses. Big Drama has never run more than a mile and a sixteenth so that could be a minor concern in Preakness Stakes odds. “He’s a very kind horse to ride, which makes him a kind horse to rate,” Fawkes said. “He’ll do what we ask him to do.” Big Drama is not among the favorites but he is not exactly considered one of the Preakness Stakes betting longshots either. At 10-1 he is a serious contender although not quite among the betting longshots but he could be the choice of a few gamblers on Saturday as they look for favorites. |
