UFC odds for UFC Fight Night 17 on Saturday, February 7th have Joe Lauzon favored against Jeremy Stephens. The bout is the feature fight on the card and one of four fights scheduled to be televised by Spike TV. Stephens is a late replacement in UFC odds for the injured Hermes Franca. Stephens has won four of his last five bouts, including wins over Cole Miller and Rafael Dos Anjos. The key for Stephens will be to keep the fight off the ground. Stephens has a big edge if the two stay on their feet but if the fight goes to the ground Lauzon is going to win in UFC odds. The fight really comes down to Lauzon’s takedowns vs. Stephen’s ability to stay on his feet. Lauzon is a tough fighter to prepare for and Stephens has not had much time. Will Stephens be able to go three rounds having only a week to prepare for this fight? Lauzon is a -200 favorite over Stephens in UFC odds for Saturday’s bout. The fight is part of UFC Fight Night 17 and will be held at the University of South Florida’s Sun Dome in Tampa. Lauzon has been very impressive recently even though he did lose to Manny Gamburyan. Lauzon is 17-4 in MMA action and 4-1 in the UFC. Stephens comes into the bout with a 14-3 MMA record and a 3-2 record in UFC fights. Stephens has seven knockouts or TKO’s in his last 10 wins including a win in UFC odds over Rafael dos Anjos at UFC 91 in November.
Cain Velasquez is also on the card. He is making the transition from collegiate wrestling to the MMA. He will be taking on Denis Stojnic from Holland. Spike TV is televising the card from Tampa and will be showing four of the fights including the Lauzon-Stephens bout. The other televised bouts are expected to be the Velasquez-Stojnic bout, the Danzig-Neer fight and Luigi Fioravanti vs. Anthony Johnson. The preliminary card which will not be televised has Rob Emerson facing Kurt Pellegrino, Dan Miller vs. Jake Rosholt, Matt Grice vs. Matt Veach, Rich Clementi vs. Gleison Tibau, Nick Catone vs. Derek Downey and Steve Bruno vs. Matthew Riddle.
