Poker played at online poker sites is the way that many people are playing poker today but it is not the only way. People still choose to play regular land based casino poker. Some players even do both. Is online poker the same game as land based casino poker?

The first major difference between online poker and casino poker is the amount of hands played. There are so many more hands played online compared to a casino. Sometimes the difference can be four or five times as many hands. That is a lot more action at online poker sites.

Online poker also allows players to sit down for just a short period of time while casino poker usually involves more time. In a live game at a casino you are usually going to be playing with the same opponents for a long period of time, while online poker will see players come and go.

You definitely have to adjust your strategy for both situations.

When you play against regular poker opponents you need to mix up your play and that applies more at land based casinos more than it does at an online poker site. Remember when you play at online poker sites that bluffs don’t work as well. Online poker is a game where all you see are the names, not the faces.

You can’t get as many tells when playing online poker. At online poker sites you are more likely to run into a player that will call anything all the way to the river.

It is a little more difficult for a person in a live casino poker game to continually push chips into the middle of the table with no cards. It seems to be less intimidating to do so when playing online.

Online poker is definitely where you can play tighter and still get action. In casino poker if you sit there and rarely play a hand most people will notice and not give you any action.

Most players don’t concentrate as much on their opponents when playing online as they do in person and your image gets to be well known.
