Gregory Richardson scored three goals and set up another as Trinidad and Tobago's Joe Public eliminated Major League Soccer's New England Revolution 4-0 on Tuesday in a CONCACAF Champions League betting preliminary round series. Joe Public won the two-match aggregate goal series by a 6-1 margin after beating New England 2-1 on Aug. 26th. The Revolution was without five key offensive players because of injuries: Taylor Twellman, Steve Ralston, Adam Cristman, Kheli Dube and Kenny Mansally.

Joe Public advances to the quarterfinal round of the CONCACAF series' Group C with Mexico's Atlante, Olimpia of Honduras and the Montreal Impact. The eight preliminary round winners advance to the 16-team group stage of the tournament, which replaced the CONCACAF Champions Cup. The Houston Dynamo and D.C. United received automatic berths in the group stage, which begins on Sept. 16th. In other action, Francisco Palencia scored two second half goals and set up another as Mexico's Pumas got by Harbour View of Jamaica to advance to the group stage.

Palencia will be in Group B with the Houston Dynamo, Luis Angel Firpo from El Salvador and Panama's San Francisco. Luis Moreno scored in the 63rd minute as Tauro FC held Chivas USA to a 1-1 draw, eliminating Chivas from the tournament. Tauro FC advanced to the group date with a 3-1 aggregate score. Chivas dominated the first half but missed a number of chances and then had to play a lot of the second half a man short. Tauro moves on and will be part of a group that includes Mexican club Santos Laguna and Guatemalan side Municipal. The Montreal Impact made it to the CONCACAF Champions League betting group stage with a scoreless tie and a 1-0 aggregate against Real Esteli, the Nicaraguan champion club, at Carlos Miranda Stadium, in Honduras.

"Even if it was not our best performance, we are glad to move to the next round," said Impact head coach John Limniatis. "We did very well defensively and they maybe had one real scoring chance. We are progressing in the tournament so it's very good." The Impact is joining in Group C the Atlante FC (Mexico) and the CD Olympia (Honduras), as well as Joe Public FC (Trinidad & Tobago). The CONCACAF Champions League group stage has four groups of four. All the teams in each group will play each other in a six-match round-robin system (three home games, three away games) beginning on September 16th.
