Doak S. Campbell StadiumThe Florida State Seminoles are another team that has fallen from National Title games over the past decade to just finishing a mediocre 4-4 in the ACC and 7-6 straight up during the 2007 season.

The Seminoles finished the season with a 35-28 loss to Kentucky in the Music City Bowl as 3.5 point underdogs in college football betting odds. That was Bobby Bowden’s first loss in December and looks forward to starting the 2008 college football schedule with 15 returning starters.

Last season, Florida State went 4-7-2 against the spread in college football betting odds and 6-7 in over/unders. The Seminoles averaged 238.9 passing yards and 121.1 rushing yards per game while allowing opponents 236 passing and 114.4 rushing yards per game.

College football betting odds to win the 2008-2009 BCS National Championship at SBG Global sportsbook have Florida State +5000 and +450 to win the Atlantic Coast Conference.

Vegas odds to win the 2009 BCS National Game have Florida State at 60/1.

College football odds for 2008-2009 regular season wins on Florida State at SBG Global sportsbook have the Seminoles at 8, -120 over and -110 under.

2008 Florida State Offense

The Seminoles will have 7 returning starters on offense and the team’s college football betting success will depend on senior Drew Weatherford at quarterback who threw for 2,049 yards with 9 touchdowns last season. Behind Weatherford at running back will be senior Antone Smith who ran for over 800 yards with 3 touchdowns.

Bowden will have plenty of experience and talent at the receiver spots with senior Greg Carr and junior Preston Parker who combined for 1,586 receiving yards with 7 touchdowns.

Now if the offensive line can give Weatherford time to throw or Smith holes to run through is still debatable. Only two returning starters will be on the line for the 2008 Seminoles; sophomore left tackle Rodney Husdon and sophomore center Ryan McMahon. The other 3 spots will be filled by redshirt freshmen Antwane Greenlee and Will Furlong on the right side and sophomore Evan Bellamy at left guard.

2008 Florida State Defense

The Seminoles have a deep tradition of producing some of the best defenses in the ACC and with Bowden having 8 returning starters to work with; we expect the 2008 Florida State defense to make some noise this year.

The defensive line has 3 of its 4 starters back with redshirt junior defensive end Everette Brown. At the open tackle spot, senior defensive end Paul Griffin will fill the role with back up experience. The linebacker crew will have two of its starters back including senior middle linebacker Derek Nicholson and senior Toddrick Verdell who will probably take over on the weak side.

The secondary will be deep with 3 returning starters including senior corner Tony Carter and junior rover Myron Rolle with senior Darius McClure taking over at free safety.

2008 Florida State Prediction

This could be the year that brings Bowden and the Seminoles back to the elite in college football stature. The only weak point the 2008 Seminoles posses is having a young offensive line but if they can put it all together than the only team standing in their way in the ACC will be Clemson. We think the Seminoles could be a Cinderella team in college football betting odds for 2008 and suggest moving a few units on Florida State at +450 to win the ACC conference.
