Texas A&M Kyle FieldThe Texas A&M Aggies finished last season 7-6 straight up and 4-4 in the Big 12 conference. The trip to the Alamo Bowl as 5.5 point underdogs in college football betting odds against Penn State, ended in a 24-17 loss that sent the Aggies back to the drawing board.

The 2008 Texas A&M football team will take the field with 10 returning starters and new head coach Mike Sherman when they attempt to come out of the Big 12 conference and into a bowl game again.

In college football matchups, Texas A&M went 5-7 against the spread in college football betting odds and 6-6 in over/unders. The Aggies averaged 187.2 passing yards and 215.6 rushing yards per game while allowing opponents 264.2 passing and 151.8 rushing yards per game.

College football odds for Texas A&M to win the Big 12 Championship at Sportsbook.com have the Aggies at +3000.

2008 Texas A&M Aggies Offense

The Aggies offense will return only 5 starters from last year’s squad that didn’t impress anyone in college football betting. Leading the Aggies at the quarterback position, senior Stephen McGee will look to capitalize on a year that consisted of 2,311 total passing yards with 12 touchdowns and 899 total yards on the ground.

Behind McGee at running back will be junior Mike Goodson who ran for 711 total yards with 5 touchdowns and senior Jorvorskie Lane who had 16 touchdowns and 780 total yards on the ground.

The Aggies won’t feel so comfortable at the receiver positions though with only senior Pierre Brown returning who had 0 touchdowns and just over 200 yards. The Aggies are counting on freshman receiver Jeffrey Fuller and junior tight end Jamie McCoy to be the ones giving McGee targets down the sideline.

That is, if he has time to throw. McGee will only see one returning starter in his offensive line from last year with really nobody important filling in the other positions.

2008 Texas A&M Aggies Defense

The Aggies defensive squad only allowed 151.8 rushing yards last year but with only 5 returning starters and 1 from the offensive line, don’t expect the same results. The Aggies defensive line will feature senior Cyril Obiozor who had 3.5 sacks last season, senior Michael Bennet at end with sophomore Lucas Patterson and junior Kellen Heard playing the tackle positions.

The linebacker spots will have some new faces with junior Matt Featherston and sophomore Von Miller as well as redshirt freshman Garrick Williams at strongside. The secondary should improve on allowing 264.2 passing yards with all 4 starters from last year’s squad returning including junior Jordan Pugh at corner back who finish the season with 90 tackles.

2008 Texas A&M Aggies Prediction

As much as head coach Mike Sherman would like to bring the Aggies back to a bowl game, it simply doesn’t happen with only 10 returning starters. Although the Aggies have power at the running back position, the offensive line is weak with only 1 returning starter and the defense will be put together from other pieces. Sorry Texas A&M college football betting fans but you really need to stay away from Aggies games this year, unless you can find finishing last in the Big 12 as a prop bet.
