Dodd StadiumThe Yellow Jackets last game was a disappointing 40-28 loss to Fresno State in the Humanitarian Bowl as 4.5 point favorites in college football betting odds but still finished up the season 7-6 straight up and third in the ACC (4-4). The 2008 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets will return with 9 starters and new head coach Paul Johnson.

Last year, Georgia Tech went 4-7-1 against the spread in college football betting odds and 5-7 in over/unders. The Yellow Jackets averaged 182.9 passing yards and 203 rushing yards per game while allowing opponents 210.2 passing and 100.2 rushing yards per game.

College football betting odds to win the 2008-2009 BCS National Championship at Sportsbook.com have Georgia Tech +10000.

Vegas odds to win the 2009 BCS National Game have Georgia Tech at 150/1.

College football odds for Georgia Tech to win the ACC Championship at Sportsbook.com have the Yellow Jackets at +2000.

2008 Georgia Tech Offense

The Georgia Tech offense will return 5 starters including sophomore Josh Nesbitt who will “run” the squad at quarterback. Hopefully Nesbitt has worked on his passing enough during the off season to improve on last year’s stats of 38% with 2 interceptions.

Nesbitt saw limited action last year as well as sophomore Jonathan Dwyer who ran for 436 yards with 9 touchdowns but both players should carry the Yellow Jackets to top three in the ACC. Nesbitt will have a pair of sophomores on the outside to throw to with Correy Earls and Demaryius Thomas.

The offensive line will need a big season at the center and right guard positions from seniors David Brown and AJ Smith if the Georgia Tech is going to compete in the ACC.

2008 Georgia Tech Defense

The Georgia Tech defense could affect college football betting odds as they only return 4 starters. The two big men in the middle, senior Vance Walker and Darryl Richard, are probably the best in the ACC and will need to play that way. The starting end spots will have sophomore Derrick Morgan and senior Michael Johnson.

The Yellow Jackets will also have and inexperienced linebacker squad with only one returning starter in senior Michael Johnson. The other two linebacker spots will have sophomores Anthony Barnes and Brad Jefferson.

The secondary will feature only one returning starter in senior corner Jahi Word-Daniels. The rest of the positions will be filled by sophomores Mario Butler at corner with Morgan Burnett and Dominique Reese at safety.

2008 Georgia Tech Prediction

If you think that the Georgia Tech football team is comprised of the sophomore class then you are right. It seems as if the Yellow Jackets are preparing for a BCS championship in the coming years which makes the 2008 season something to build upon.

Despite the young team, the Yellow Jackets should have enough talent to finish in the top fove of the ACC again and finish the season around 6-6 overall.
