![]() One game that stands out among the rest for week 1 NFL betting is when the Kansas City Chiefs (4-12 SU, 7-8-1 ATS, 8-8 O/U) travel to New England to play the “almost perfect” Patriots (16-0 SU, 10-6 ATS, 11-5 O/U) on September 7th at 1:00pm EST on CBS. Despite having the powerful Larry Johnson in the backfield, the 2007 Chiefs were one of the worst NFL betting teams primarily because of the offense. The Chiefs were ranked a league worst 32nd in rushing yards and second to worst in points per game averaging 14.1. Making up for the lack of offense, Herm Edwards orchestrated a defensive scheme that was ranked 13th in the league overall, held opponents to 319.2 yards per game and only gave up 188.6 passing yards per game which was 4th in the league. Although the Kansas City Chiefs had a 4-12 season, it was the defense that posted enough numbers to help the Chiefs go 7-81 ATS and 8-8 in all Over/Under wagers. The Chiefs selected many defensive players during 2008 NFL Draft including LSU defensive tackle Glen Dorsey and cornerback Brandon Flowers who should both see some time on the field for NFL week 1 betting action. NFL odds currently have the Patriots favored by more than two touchdowns because the Chiefs offense probably won’t score that much in NFL week 1 action but if the Chiefs defense plays their week 1 game like last season… well it really won’t matter. The Patriots on the other hand are fresh off an almost perfect season until a loss to the New York Giants in Super Bowl XLII. Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots look to continue their solid NFL betting stats of 10-6 ATS and 11-5 Over/Under in their week 1 game against the Chiefs. New England posted the exact record of 5-3 ATS for both home and road games. The Patriots also went 5-3 Over/Under at home games and 6-2 Over/Under on the road. When week 1 betting action begins on Sunday September 7th, the Patriots will be taking the field with the leagues first overall offensive that averaged 411.2 total yards behind Tom Brady last season and a defense ranked fourth in the league that held teams to only 288.3 total yards allowed. It will be exciting to see what type of numbers Randy Moss will put up in week 1 for NFL betting fans and if Wes Welker can continue his standout performance from last year. The Patriots picked up Tennessee linebacker Jerrod Mayo and Colorado cornerback Terrence Wheatley during the off-season trying to secure trouble areas in a defense that is simply just getting older. Chiefs at Patriots Week 1 Betting PredictionThe Chiefs were just too horrible last season to think that their offense could even get close to sustaining enough points to keep their two touchdown margin over the Patriots in week 1 betting. Maybe against any other team, the defense would be able to help sustain that type of point spread but this is the Patriots. They are not Spartans but pretty darn close and Herm Edwards knows this. Do not be surprised to see the line at Patriots -21 during the NFL schedule for week 1 betting and do not be surprised if the Patriots win by more than that. |
