2008 Texas Longhorns Betting Odds and Schedule

Darell K. Royal StadiumIn a year that consisted of the worst home loss in 10 seasons and losing to rivals Texas A&M for the second consecutive time, expectations are high for the Texas Longhorns this season with seven starters returning on offense including quarterback Colt McCoy.

Texas brings in a new defensive coordinator as Will Muschamp comes over from Auburn. He is expected to immediately improve a defense that gave up the most yards in school history last season.

Despite the downfalls, Texas still was able to go 6-1 straight up against the college football betting odds in their last 7 games and 4-2 against the spread in their last 6 games and have gone 21-4 straight up in their last 25 games at home at Darrell K. Royal stadium.

Texas went 7-6 against the spread in college football betting odds and 9-4 in over/unders. The Longhorns averaged 262.2 passing yards and 199.8 rushing yards per game while allowing opponents 275.5 passing and 99.3 rushing yards per game.

College football betting odds to win the 2008-2009 BCS National Championship at BetUS sportsbook have the Longhorns +1200 and +200 in college football odds to win the Big 12 Conference.

BetUs sportsbook has Heisman Trophy college football betting odds on McCoy at +1500 and Texas Longhorn regular season wins set at 9 -120.

Vegas odds to win the 2009 BCS National Game have the Texas Longhorns at 10/1.

2008 Texas Longhorns Offense

Colt McCoy returns at quarterback after suffering a sophomore slump a year ago. McCoy has the starting job but many in the Texas contingent believe that the team would be better off with John Chiles running the show.

It could end up being a two quarterback system at Texas this season.

The Longhorns lose running back Jamaal Charles and wide receiver Limas Sweed but Brandon Collins looks like he can replace Sweed at receiver while Vondrell McGee and redshirt freshman Foswhitt Whittaker will attempt to replace Charles.

The offensive line looks solid but not spectacular.

2008 Texas Longhorns Defense

The Longhorns return senior tackle Roy Miller who leads the defensive line. He will team with Lamarr Houston and Brian Orakpo. The linebackers look much improved this season with Rod Muckelroy leading the way. The secondary is young but very talented. Junior Deon Beasley looks to be the shutdown corner.

2008 Texas Longhorns Prediction

Mack Brown really needs a good year at Texas in 2008. To get it he may have to use Chiles a lot more than last season. He will also need to find someone to run the ball. The defense will be vastly improved with Muschamp as defensive coordinator so if the offense produces the Longhorns could be at the top of the Big 12.

The schedule is not easy for Texas in 2008. They should be 4-0 after their non-conference games but they have to go to Colorado, host Missouri, and face Oklahoma, in addition to trips to Texas Tech and Kansas in Big 12 play.

"It will be the hardest schedule we've ever played," head coach Mack Brown said.
