2008 LSU Tigers Betting PreviewLSU is coming off a magical college football betting season last year in which they hoisted the BCS National Championship trophy. The LSU Tigers had a lot of things go right in 2007 but it is unlikely they can duplicate that success this season.

The Tigers lost a lot of talent in the off-season including All-American nose tackle Glenn Dorsey who was drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs. The defense suffered a lot of losses in addition to Dorsey as only four starters return.

Eight starters return on offense but quarterback Ryan Perrilloux will not be one of them as he was cut from the team in the off-season. Head coach Les Miles has done an excellent job at LSU but his work is cut out for him in 2008.

Last year, LSU went 5-7-2 against the spread in college football betting odds and 10-4 in over/unders. The Tigers averaged 227.3 passing yards and 221.3 rushing yards per game while allowing opponents 175.1 passing and 106.1 rushing yards per game.

2008 LSU Tigers Offense

The quarterback position is going to get a lot of scrutiny at LSU in 2008. Neither Jarrett Lee nor Andrew Hatch has much experience so it could be highly touted freshman Jordan Jefferson that gets the job. A tough follow up to a season that averaged 227.3 passing yards per game.

The Tigers do have solid receivers in Brandon LaFell and Demetrius Byrd. Sophomore Terrance Toliver looks like he could be an impact player for a long time. The question is whether anyone can get the receivers the ball.

Keiland Williams returns at running back and sophomore Richard Murphy looks like a future star. The offensive line is still very good led by Ciron Black and Herman Johnson.

2008 LSU Tigers Defense

The defensive line is good even with the loss of Dorsey. Tyson Jackson and Kirston Pittman are back while Rahim Alem and Ricky Jean-Francois have a lot of talent.

The same cannot be said of the linebacking crew. Darry Beckwith is the only starter returning so he will need help. Most of the secondary is gone as well but free safety Curtis Taylor returns. Playmakers Chad Jones and Harry Coleman should see increased time this season.

2008 LSU Tigers Prediction

The LSU Tigers have won 11 or 12 games for three straight years. It will be tough to keep that streak going in 2008. The team loses 13 starters and really doesn’t have any experience at quarterback. Road games at Auburn, Florida and South Carolina will be very difficult and all occur before November.

Reaching a BCS Bowl game is not out of the question for the Tigers but reaching the BCS title game again looks very unlikely in 2008.
