2008 Auburn Tigers Betting Odds and Schedule

Auburn Tigers StadiumA surprise team in college football betting this season could be the Auburn Tigers. Last year Auburn’s offense was horrible as they ranked 102nd nationally in total offense. They have taken steps to solve that problem, as they brought in Tony Franklin as offensive coordinator. Franklin runs a spread offense that seems well suited for quarterbacks Kodi Burns and junior college transfer Chris Todd.

Franklin has worked with Todd in the past and it could be that the starting quarterback job becomes his. Franklin actually was hired before last year’s Chick-fil-A bowl game and had things rolling in a short time as the Tigers put up 423 yards in the 23-20 win over Clemson as a 2 point underdog in college football betting odds.

Last year, Auburn went 7-5 against the spread in college football betting odds and 4-8 in over/unders. The Tigers averaged 173.3 passing yards and 154.2 rushing yards per game while allowing opponents 179 passing and 119.3 rushing yards per game.

Auburn Tigers betting odds to win the 2008-2009 BCS National Championship at BetUS sportsbook have the Tigers +2500 and +250 in college football odds to win the SEC Conference.

College football betting odds for 2008 Auburn regular season wins at BetUs sportsbook have the Tigers at 9, -135 over and -105 under.

Vegas odds to win the 2009 BCS National Game have the Auburn Tigers at 20/1.

2008 Auburn Tigers Offense

Eight starters return on offense for the Tigers including running backs Ben Tate and Brad Lester. The quarterback job will go to either Todd or Burns.

The Tigers leading receiver last year was former walk-on Rod Smith, who caught 52 passes for 705 yards. This year the team has a lot of depth which will be needed in Franklin's offense if they are going to win more than 9 games in college football betting odds.

Montez Billings, Robert Dunn, Tim Hawthorne, Terrell Zachery, James Swinton and Chris Slaughter are back at the receiver position.

Tight end Tommy Trott will also get a lot more action than a year ago. The offensive line returns everyone and will be much improved from last season when three true freshmen had to start.

2008 Auburn Tigers Defense

The Tigers have a new defensive coordinator in Paul Rhoads after Will Muschamp left for Texas. The Tigers have to replace three starters on the defensive line. Antonio Coleman looks like a future star at defensive end while Tray Blackmon leads the linebacking crew. He was hurt last year and still had 45 tackles, despite missing three games. Merrill Johnson, Chris Evans and Craig Stevens should all see playing time.

The secondary looks solid with Aairon Savage moving from safety to cornerback. Safety Zac Etheridge had 65 tackles last year while cornerback Jerraud Powers had 63 tackles last year, and four interceptions.

2008 Auburn Tigers Prediction

It is never easy playing in the SEC and this year’s schedule is not easy but the good news is that most of the tough college football bettting games are at home. The game at West Virginia is the toughest road game. LSU, Tennessee and Georgia all visit Jordan-Hare. A nine or ten win season is definitely possible for the Tigers in 2008.
