2008 Clemson Tigers Betting Odds and Schedule

Clemson Tigers StadiumBefore every season it seems that the Clemson Tigers are a popular pick to be a surprise team. Every year they disappoint the experts that look at college football betting odds and their fans. The Tigers fell short in the Atlantic Division title game during the 2005, 2006 seasons and ended up missing the bus last year to Jacksonville. Boston College defeated Clemson at home 20–17 in the final conference game which denied the Tigers a shot at the ACC title since 1991.

Once again it seems that Clemson could have a huge year, but how many times have you heard that before?

Last year, Clemson went 6-6 against the spread in college football betting odds and 6-6 in over/unders. The Tigers averaged 253.6 passing yards and 158.8 rushing yards per game while allowing opponents 184.8 passing and 112.4 rushing yards per game.

Clemson betting odds to win the 2008-2009 BCS National Championship at SBGGlobal sportsbook have the Clemson Tigers +2000 and +145 in college football odds to win the Atlantic Coast Conference.

College football odds for 2008 Clemson regular season wins at SBGGlobal sportsbook have the Tigers at 9.5, -150 over and +120 under.

Vegas odds to win the 2009 BCS National Game have the Clemson Tigers at 20/1.

2008 Clemson Tigers Offense

The 2008 Clemson Tigers are the college football betting favorite to win the Atlantic Division title in the ACC this season, primarily because of quarterback Cullen Harper and talented running backs James Davis and C.J. Spiller. The Tigers must protect Harper and open holes for the running backs if they are to improve versus the college football betting pointspread.

Neither of those things happened last season as Harper was sacked 35 times and the running game was shutdown by top defenses. Harper threw for 27 touchdown passes a year ago, just missing 3,000 yards as he finished with 2,991. Davis and Spiller return to give the offense a lot of weapons. Davis is second in school history with 38 career touchdowns.

The receivers are led by Aaron Kelly who decided to stay instead of going pro. He had 11 TD catches a year ago. The question mark on offense is upfront where three starters must be replaced. The two guard spots look vulnerable.

2008 Clemson Tigers Defense

The defense for Clemson looks good again in 2008 and should impact college football odds. They did lose Phillip Merling to the NFL but have Dorell Scott and Ricky Sapp. They also have future star Da'Quan Bowers.

The linebackers look weak as starters Nick Watkins and Tramaine Billie are gone. The remaining talent is very young but talented.

The good news is that Clemson probably has the best secondary in the conference. Seniors Michael Hamlin and Chris Clemons are excellent safeties while Chris Chancellor and Crezdon Butler are solid corners.

2008 Clemson Tigers Prediction

The 2008 Clemson Tigers have enough talent to challenge for a National Championship but somehow they will lose games in college football betting they shouldn’t. A key game in college football betting will be the opener against Alabama in the Georgia Dome.

Road tests at Boston College, Florida State and Virginia will probably prevent Clemson from contending for a National title but they could make a BCS bowl game in 2008 and impact college football betting odds.
