Damian Alvarez scored the goal for Pachuca CF on Sunday night in their 1-1 tie against Santos Laguna. Santos tied it in the 71st minute after Christian Benitez scored. Santos had already been eliminated before the game began and Pachuca only needed the draw for a spot in SuperLiga semifinal betting. Pachuca finished the Group B qualifying phase with a record of 1-1-1. Chivas USA had a chance to advance to the SuperLiga semifinals but Shalrie Joseph scored the tying goal on a header in the 78th minute to give New England a 1-1 tie on Sunday. The draw gave New England first place in Group B and made it so that Pachuca only needed a draw to advance to the SuperLiga semifinals. Brad Davis had assists on goals by Bobby Boswell and Ricardo Clark as Houston defeated D.C. United on Saturday. The victory guaranteed Houston a spot in the SuperLiga semifinals. Stuart Holden had the other goal for Houston. Giancarlo Maldonado and Gerardo Espinoza scored goals for Atlante in their 2-0 victory over CD Guadalajara on Saturday. The win was a must for Atlante if they hoped to advance and be a SuperLiga semifinals betting factor. Houston, Atlante and CD Guadalajara, known as Chivas, all tied with six points. Houston won the group on goal differential, and Atlante advanced because of its win over Guadalajara. The game was a major disappointment for Chivas and their fans who were expecting at least a spot in the SuperLiga semifinals. A standing room only crowd of 10,373 was on hand but Chivas could not get at least a draw to advance. Atlante's Christian Bermudez's set up Maldonaldo’s goal in the 42nd minute and Espinoza scored the clincher in the 88th minute. Chivas put on a lot of pressure late but could not score the equalizer before Espinoza put the game away. In other MLS soccer betting, the 2008 MLS All-Star game will be played on Thursday July 24 and will feature West Ham from the English Premier League against the MLS All-Stars. Although West Ham plays in the English Premier League, they are by no means in the class of a Manchester United or Chelsea so the MLS All-Stars should have no problem continuing their perfect 5-0 record against foreign teams.
