The event is called the "fastest two minutes in sports" which is always held on the first Saturday in May at the famed Churchill Downs track for the best 3-year-old thoroughbreds in the world. The event is also the first jewel of Triple Crown as jockey's horses and trainers alike look to win three consecutive races in search of the elusive title. With just days away from the big event, 2013 Kentucky Derby odds favor Verrazano as the 9/2 horse betting favorite to win around the 1 1/4-mile track on Saturday and a 16/1 favorite to become this year's first Triple Crown winner since Affirmed in 1978.

Much has changed since the opening Kentucky Derby odds for 2013 which had Flashback, Itsmyluckyday and Verrazano as the top three wagering choices for the first jewel of the Triple Crown. As we are less than a week away, only one of the early contenders remain as a favorite in Vegas as updated betting lines now have Verrazano being listed at 4/1 (+400) to win at Churchill Downs. The remaining top five selections to grace the winner's circle in the "Run for the Roses" include Orb at 6/1 (+600), Revolutionary at 8/1 (+800) with Goldencents and Normandy Invasion at 10/1 (+1000).
